How to improve memory?
1. Do not confuse understanding with recall
Often times we study and feel so comfortable that we understand and comprehend so well the reading. But after several consecutive hours of study, we notice that we understand many things that we do not remember well. When we read, we have an infinite ability to comprehend ideas, but we have a very limited ability to remember concepts. Thus, if we do not manage well the use of memory, we will have to devote more time to consolidating the new knowledge in our minds.
2. Do not study for more than 3 hours per day
To understand and recall at the same time, you must take into account that memory during learning has this tendency: after two hours of intensive study, our memory capacity is reduced to 50%, after three hours to 30% and so forth, so we should not force ourselves to study more than Three hours a day.
3. Use strategic breaks
The program requires us to study more than three hours a day. We must face a low level of study during this lengthy study. For this you have to allow the mind some strategic periods of rest. If we don’t, the mind starts wandering by itself after a few hours. With amazement, we will discover that we are thinking about the most ridiculous things without being able to do anything to avoid it, and take our focus on studying more and more. This dissipation is a comfort resource for our brain.
Advice: So, every 30-40 minutes we rest between 5 and 10 minutes, and we will equip our minds with the ability to restore true levels of recall. Rest doesn’t mean eating a sandwich, calling a friend, etc. Rest means doing a mental relaxation exercise (breathing, meditation, napping for a few minutes, etc …).
4. Establish a long-term review routine
One factor that very few students and professionals pay attention to is the workings of long-term memory. Reviews are so important that 80% of what we studied is lost after 24 hours.
Tip: If we do a 10-minute strategy review in the first two days after study, another one week later, then a month and another in six months, we will preserve what we studied for the long term, right up to only a 10-minute review once a year to completely preserve our new knowledge. In our memory.
5. Nutrition improves memory
The first brain function that usually erodes is memory. In the average person this deterioration begins at around the age of 30 years. One can change behavior, improve one’s abilities and make life stronger, only to the extent that one is able to store new information in long-term memory and then remember it. If this ability decreases, he becomes a robot, unable to learn anything new, always repeating some habits and memories that increase in dimension in time. The amount of neurotransmitters and substances that allow the exchange of information between neurons determines whether or not storing information as a memory will take place. If the amount of the neurotransmitter is not enough, the memory storage will be distorted.
Regardless of the technology that accompanies the educational process, learning occurs only as a result of active mental processes in our biological brain
